Glossary

Term
Description
Linear Low Density Polyethylene
Linear Low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) boasts the advantages of high strength, toughness, strong rigidity, as well as excellent resistance to heat and cold. In addition, it also features outstanding resistance to environmental stress cracking and tear strength. LLDPE also features great resistance to acids, alkalis, and salt solutions, as well as outstanding elongation, electrical insulation, chemical stability, processability, and resistance to low temperatures.
Ingress Protection Rating (IP)
Ingress Protection rating (or just IP rating), is an international standard (IEC 60529) used to rate the degree of protection or sealing effectiveness in electrical enclosures against intrusion of objects, water, dust or accidental contact. It corresponds to the European standard EN 60529.
Ultraviolet Radiation (UV) Resistance
Ultraviolet resistance is the ability of a material, often a polymer, to withstand the degradation that can be caused by exposure to ultraviolet light. If a polymer has low ultraviolet resistance, it could be subject to premature or unintended failure as a result of deterioration.
Impact Strength
Impact strength – also called impact toughness – is the amount of energy that a material can withstand when the said load is suddenly applied to it. It may also be defined as the threshold of force per unit area before the material undergoes fracture
Chemical Resistance
Chemical resistance is the ability of a material to withstand chemical attack. A material with high chemical resistance, therefore, has less chance of corrosion.
Heat Resistance
Heat Resistance
Corrosion Resistant
Corrosion resistance is defined as the inherent ability of a material (metallic or non-metallic) to withstand corrosion damage caused by either oxidation or other chemical reactions.
Abrasion Resistant
Abrasion resistance refers to the ability of materials and structures to withstand abrasion. It is a method of wearing down or rubbing away by means of friction.
Resistivity
The electrical resistivity of a specimen of a material may also be known as its specific electrical resistance. It is a measure of how strongly a material opposes the flow of electric current.
Dielectric strength
Dielectric strength is the voltage that an insulating material can withstand before breakdown occurs.
